M E M O R A N D U M TO: Dr. Kuang-An Chang Instructor, CVEN 302, Fall 2010 FROM: Ryan Henry 219003331 DATE: October 29, 2010 RE: Curve Fitting for Stage-Discharge Relationships In this lab we were to explore the relationship between depth of water and flow rate in a river. First we obtained the stage discharge data and stored it. We then had to write a MATLAB pro- gram to perform the required task in section 2 of the Lab. For the first graph the second curve fit line is the better because it takes the 5 points on the graph that are outliers to the rest of the data. Once these are removed the curve fit line will be closer to your actual data because it no longer has these extreme “false val- ues” influencing the curve fit line.
