Henry 1 Ryan Henry Mrs. Fletcher Engl 1301 10/16/08 Partying Has Consequences Underage drinking affects high school students in Katy more than they might think. Most kids drink in order to have fun or to try to fit in, but fail to take the time to think about some of the consequences that are involved. A teenager that is exposed to alcohol at such young age is more prone to developing problems later on in life. Although teens don’t think that the occasional partying will affect them, it in fact causes a lot of issues, such as higher insurance, alcoholism, and health-related problems. Teens think that there are no repercussions to underage drinking. Unfortunately, they fail to realize that it can cost them a lot of money, especially if they drive drunk. If one chooses to drink and drive and they end up in a car accident, their insurance will rise dramatically since they are a minor. Studies done by Nationwide Insurance show that alcohol-related crashes cost each U.S. household more than $165 a year in higher insurance premiums and that cost continues to rise over time (Gillespie).
