ENGL 2111 World Literature October 27, 2009 The Odyssey Q1. How does Penelope respond to the information given to her by Eurykleia that Odysseus had returned home to Ithaca? What was her reaction? When Eurykleia tell Penelope that Odysseus had returned her response was that of disbelief and she thinks that Eurykleia is mocking and playing tricks on her. She reacts by telling Eurykleia not to play tricks on her and orders her to leave and go back downstairs. In addition she warns that any other of her servants came talking nonsense to her she would have them flogged out of the house. Eurykleia is surprised that Penelope thinks she would joke about such a thing. Later she sprang up from the bed with tears and hugged the Nurse.
