Fiber Research Checkpoint SCI 241 Crystal Webb 09/9/10 What is the function of fiber in the body? The main function of fiber in the body is to help with digestion. Fiber can also help a person fill fuller after eating it. Fiber helps to push other foods that may be hard to digest through our bodies. What are some examples of food sources of dietary fiber? A few examples of foods containing fiber are any whole grains, such as bread, pasta, or oatmeal. Whole wheat flour and brown rice also contain fiber. What is the difference between soluble and insoluble fiber? When soluble fiber is mixed with water it will form a gel like substance. Soluble fiber can increase diet quality and decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease. Soluble fiber can also modestly reduce bad cholesterol. Oats have the highest amount of soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber does not absorb water or dissolve in water. Insoluble fiber can make you feel full which allows
