1 Health Eating Plan SCI 241 Crystal Webb 08/29/2010 My current food habits are good and bad. I do make health choices in what I eat. For example, I will eat an apple over a cookie. Making healthy choices was a struggle for me when I decided to change my diet. I am current working on new issues that I became aware of more when we conducted our food diary. I skip meals and I am not getting the nutrients that I need in my daily diet. I did not eat enough dairy, grains, meats. I was recently diagnosed with, onset type 2 diabetes. This is a disease that runs in my family. Right now I can take medication in a pill form instead of injecting myself using needles. When I found out the news I was scared and wanted to change my bad eating habits as well as my exercise habits. My doctor referred me to a nutritionist and together we worked out a plan that works great for me. I had to use the food pyramid two different ways. I did everything the site asked for at first and it calculated my food pyramid. The pyramid was for a 2,200 calorie diet. The pyramid showed that I should have 7 ounces a day of grains, 3 cups of various vegetables a day, 2 cups of fruit, 3 cups of milk, and 6 ounces of meat or beans a day. It also stated that I should aim for 6 teaspoons of oils a day and limit my extra fats and sugars to 290 calories. This pyramid is for someone who does not have any health issues. The second pyramid I did was for a 1600 calorie a day diet. This is the diet I need to stick to in order to continuing losing weight and hopefully stop talking medication someday soon. This pyramid states that I should eat 5 ounces of grains a day, 2 cups of vegetables, 1 ½ cups of fruit, 3 cups of milk, and 5 ounces of meat or beans a day. It also states that my oil intake should be 5 teaspoons a day, and I should limit my sugar and fat intake to 130 calories a day. This is closer to the plan I have already designed for myself but my needs are still a little bit different. I
