Personalized Nutrition and Exercise Plan SCI 241 Crystal Webb 10/23/10 One of the targeted health issues I have is diabetes. I am still in the early stages of diabetes, which means I can regulate my sugar levels by taking medication in a pill form. Another health issue I have is high blood pressure. There are also people in my family that are obese and many have had heart attacks. Since many of my family members are overweight, we also struggle with knee problems which usually results in surgery. My number one nutritional goal is to cut the snack food out of my diet. I am a chocolate junkie. I can usually do pretty well sticking to a diet but I do not have much will power when it comes to chocolate. I think if I can limit my snaking by keeping healthier things in the house instead of candy bars and snack cakes it will help me to stay on the right path. I think it is unrealistic to give up chocolate completely, but I can find some sugar free candy and eat it in moderation. My next nutrition goal is to cut out the extra fat in my diet. My family and I tend to fry a lot of our food in oil. We fry French fries, chicken, and many different foods. I can cut out a lot of added calories and fat by baking more of our food. I do miss the crunchiness of fried foods but I have a few solutions to that. I have started buying a different kind of French fry that gets crispy in the oven. I have also used crushed corn flakes to batter my chicken in and it gives it a great crunch when I bake it in the oven. Eating more dairy is another nutritional goal I need to focus on. I am really bad about eating any dairy products because I really do not like them. It is important that I eat more dairy to keep my diet balanced and because my body needs the calcium. I think I can help myself in two different ways by drinking chocolate milk. I still get the chocolate I want and the dairy that I
