Law Enforcement Deviance The Rampart scandal almost seems surreal in American society mainly because of the size of the internal corruption and the high number of officers involved. But if we took a trip back into the past, to the city of New York around the year 1850, what one would see is nothing but scandal and brutality at the highest level from politics to law enforcement. Some would argue that police corruption starts and spreads with basic scenarios; one is the meateaters who constitute a small percentage of all officers that pursue various situations in order to come out with financial gain. And the others are the rotten apple theory where there are a few bad apples that got into the police department without being thoroughly screened and susceptible to corruption. With the last theory being the environmental perspective that suggests police corruption is the end result of political corruption in cities. Two of the deviances that were addressed with the vast array of the total deviant charges are the beating of suspects and the planting of evidence. There are several reasons why an officer or officers may beat a suspect from simple anger issues, to trying to obtain a confession from the suspect. In the city of Orange, New York a man was picked up in connection with the shooting
