Module Objectives:       Upon completion of the study of this module, the student is expected    to:  1. Define vital signs.   Temperature: 2. Define body temperature. 3. Describe the body’s thermoregulatory system including heat production and mechanisms of heat loss.  4. Identify factors that increase or decrease an individual’s body temperature.   5. Identify the normal ranges for body temperature in various age groups and values that suggest need  for treatment and / or notification of the physician.   6. Compare various devices to measure temperature including advantages and disadvantages of each.     7. Compare the various sites for measuring body temperature including advantages and disadvantages of  each.    8. Demonstrate assessment of temperature and documentation.     Pulse: 9. Define pulse. 10. Discuss stroke volume and cardiac output and the relationship to a pulse.
