1 Area, Volume, Mass and Density- Lab 1 Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to find the area, volume, mass and density of the two blocks and the rock. Materials: 1 Thin Wooden Block 1 Thick Wooden Block 1 Rock Balance Metric Ruler Graduated Cylinder Water Procedure: 1. Gather all the supplies 2. Start by finding the Area of the objects by measuring the length and width and multiplying them together 3. Find the volume of the blocks next by multiplying the length, width and height together 4. Next find the volume of the rock by putting a premeasured amount of water (enough to cover the rock thoroughly) into the graduated cylinder. 5. Next add the rock to the water and record new measurement. 6. Subtract the original measurement from the new measurement and convert the outcome into cm 3 7. Next find the mass by zeroing out your scale and placing each object on separately to find their individual weights. 8. To find the density, use the following formula and put your previous answers into the equation:
