Five Minutes to Teach Study Skills in Class Improving Memory Objective: demonstrate memory methods Procedure: students probably memorize material by using repetition, and repetition can be made less onerous. The instructor can choose one, or more of these memory techniques, and show it can be used with the material presented in the class. The instructor might model how to memorize selected material. a. Acronyms related to silly sentences, these common words, easily recalled, enable the student to recall items by generating the items from the initial letter. FANBOYS is a common acronym used by writing students for the coordinating conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so. b. Silly sentences the instructor can share some silly sentences he or she used.
