Hints for midterm (I will update this periodically, so please check frequently): Addition as of 2-12-2011 (1) There are 6 problems covering everything. Each problem is divided into many small questions, such as P1(a) – (j), P2(a) – (h), etc. (2) Be familiar with Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates. If the problem specifies one coordinate system, you need to follow it for credit. The reason is we know the results for the E-field and H-field of symmetric systems. The purpose of the exam is to show the logical flow, and not memorize the final answer. (3) If you are stack, go to the next problem. Scores will be adjusted depending on the average. Just give your best shot. (4) Make a clear distinction for scalars and vectors. If asked a vector, answer the direction and magnitude. Or you can specify three vector components. Vectors can be expressed by A , and A means | A | in the exam. We may use S d or r a ˆ (arrow or caret) to express vectors in your answer. If you simply write
