On a Friday night in November, a carriage carrying the mail is going along the  Dover road. Three people are travelling with the mail. It is a very cold night,  and the passengers are walking beside the carriage. Everyone is suspicious  of one another, as crime is very frequent. A messenger advances to the  carriage looking for Jarvis Lorry. Mr. Lorry identifies the messenger as an  employee at Tellson's Bank in London. Mr. Lorry reads the message, which  tells him to wait at Dover for "Mam'selle." Jarvis tells the messanger to deliver
