ENGRI 1290 2 Energy usage in building Residential Energy consumption in USA: 21 % (6.1 PWh) Commercial Energy consumption in USA: 17 % (4.9 PWh) To reduce the energy intake of living and working spaces we need to diminish: * Space heating/Air conditioning: requires better insulation * Water heating: requires colder showers * Lighting: requires more efficient light bulbs and sunlight capture These three items correspond to 57% of energy consumption in houses and 49% in commercial buildings.
