Ashley Hoffmann 14106647 Chapter 19: Group Communication What are group dynamics and how do they impact small groups?  o Group dynamics are the ways in which members relate to one another and view their  functions. They impact small groups because they determine whether or not a group achieves  its mission. Why is working effectively in a group important? o People can achieve a better outcome by collaborating on a task than by working along since  each group member has unique experiences and perspectives to offer and by sharing their  ideas, each member has the chance to spot potential problems or improvements in a plan that  a lone individual might miss. Each person has different strengths and interests therefore the  group can divide up a project so that each member takes responsibility for the portions of the  job he or she is best suited for. What are the three types of leaders? o One type is the designated leader, which is selected by an external authority and he or she  helps the group quickly move forward with its mission. Another type of leader is an implied
