Modupe Alle February 2, 2010 SYG2010 Homework #2 1. Article: “She works. They’re happy.” New York Times, January 22, 2010 2. This article is about the increase in women either being the sole breadwinners in a household, having the lion’s share of the income, and/or being equal to her husband in regards to salary. It discusses how, in today’s society, it is more acceptable for a husband and wife to “swap roles”, as the article put it, the man being the primary caregiver of the children while the woman is the main source of income. It also discusses how these changing roles may emasculate some men because it has been socially accepted (more so imposed) that men are the ones who should be “bringing home the bacon”. Contrastingly, studies done found that women find it hard to let their spouse tend to the children without them having a say in what goes on. They feel “left out of the loop” when the husband is the one dressing, feeding, and/or being around the kids the majority of the time. 3.
