COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES: This course is a group-paced class presented primarily through lectures. The lectures support your textbook reading and may be supplemented with Power Point presentations, unit outlines, maps, and media. As students of American history, we will: analyze events and study prominent figures and their contributions to American history through 1877; apply that study to topics such as revolution, nation building, geographic and social mobility, social and political reform, governmental precedents, and war; describe the development of governmental operations in our early history; and trace the course of conflict resolution in our national experience. All this sounds pretty lofty, huh? And it assumes that we learn from past mistakes made in our history and do not repeat them in the decision-making processes of today. So, how are we doing so far?
