Chapter One Discussion Notes Wellness is the absence of disease This is false, although at one time, this was a definition of health. We'll look at the six interrelated dimensions of  health and how they interact. I would like for you to think about something for a moment: Is it possible to be  physically healthy and unwell? How about living with a disability but at the height of wellness? Health-  Overall conditions of body/mind- absence of illness or injury Influenced by factors beyond your control Social determinants of health - societal conditions that affect health of individuals and communities---  physical, economic, social, cultural—housing, working conditions, transportation, water and air quality and  climate, income, socioeconomic status, literacy, employment status Ecological view of health and wellness - addresses all determinants of health and focuses on interactions  among individual behaviors: environment, genetics, hereditary factors, and other behavioral factors (exercise,  diet, sleep, smoking) Wellness- The ability to live life to the fullest Determined by decisions you make and how you life--- lifestyle
