Restless Raisins Time Estimate: 5 minutes Materials: 600 mL glass beaker 400 mL carbonated water (any colorless carbonated beverage will work) 5 raisins Advance Preparation: None required. Procedure: Pour the carbonated beverage into the beaker and add the raisins. Questions to Ask: (Before Experiment) Have you ever seen raisins move? We have this beverage and these raisins, does anybody have an idea how  we can make the raisins move without touching them with our body? (During Experiment) Why are the raisins rising? Why are the raisins falling? Do you think they will ever stop rising and falling? Restless Raisins 1

(After Experiment AND Explanation) Would this work if we put raisins in tap water? Would this work if we put marbles in a carbonated liquid?  How many of you burp after drinking a soda? Why? Have you ever had a “flat” glass of soda? What makes the soda flat?
