PRELAB ASSIGNMENT 4 SERIES RLC CIRCUIT (STEP RESPONSE AND RESONANCE) 1. SERIES RLC STEP RESPONSE Build the given Multisim circuit. Use a square signal amplitude 6 volts and DC offset 6 volts and a frequency of 1kHz. The response of this circuit ( voltage across the capacitor ) will depend on the damping ( resistance ) of the system. You should select either switch A or B (not both i.e. one close and the other one open, to open and close the switches press a or b on the keyboard) and observe the response. When you choose switch A you are using the 1.0 k Ω resistor and when you choose switch B you are using the 200 Ω resistor. You will probably need to “zoom in” the portion of the response that is after the rising edge ( also called leading edge or front edge ) of the square signal. The rising edge is the portion of the signal where the voltage goes from 0 to 12 volts. You can “zoom in” by changing the horizontal scale ( time scale ) and using the bar below the graph to scroll right or left.
