ASE 120K Lecture Notes Lab 1 Handout Wake study of NACA 0012 Airfoil Airfoil is representative of a thin streamlined body (segment of a helicopter blade.) The 0012 marking is representative of a general class of airfoils developed by NACA (The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics). For example: a NACA 2412 airfoil means: 2: Maximum camber in % of chord (2%) 4: Location of maximum camber in 10ths of chord (0.4) 12: Max thickness ratio t/c (in %) where t = thickness, and c = chord length Therefore our NACA 0012 is a 12% thick symmetric airfoil .
