Summarize, Analyze, Evaluate – Prewriting #3 The point of this assignment is to prepare you to write your rhetorical analysis by breaking the task into two main phrases, this one and the drafting to follow. By dividing up the tasks (which are really quite separate anyway) you will be able to focus on the different parts the way they require. Please complete both steps below : Step 1 Write a tight little summary of your article (approximately 100 words) in which you note the main argument being made, and the major and minor claims the author makes to convince his or her audience. Think back to our summary assignment for more details on what makes a good summary, but remember to put the main argument up front, to name the article and the author, and to connect ideas and indicate their importance. Step 2 After you have written the summary, answer the follow questions about your article . a) List the strategies the author uses to convince us. Authoritative tone. Referencing an authority.
