Explorations Of Our Digital Future Spring 2007 Team Milestone 3, Part 1 of 3 Written by Jeremy Garrett, Edited by Tom Walker, Copyrighted Feb. 2007 Section 1 – Creating an Interview Questionnaire: Please refer to Chapter 2 and Lesson #3 (the lecture on Chapter 2) while completing this assignment. Using the “product / problem decomposition” that you made in Milestone 2 as your guide, discuss your product, and verbally decide on a description that you would give to your potential customers. Once that is completed, create AT LEAST 16 total questions about your product, with a minimum of 4 of each of the four types (if you create “extra” questions, they can be of any type The first type of question is the “open ended question.” Examples of this type of question include: 1. “If you currently have a cell phone, please tell us what you like about your current model.” 2. “If you currently have a cell phone, please tell us what you do not like about your current model.” 3. “Please describe the way in which you use your current phone / where you use your current phone.” The second type of question focuses on numerical data. Examples of this type of question include: 1. “Please estimate the number of customized ring-tones that you setup on your current cell phone.” The third type of question focuses on frequency data. Examples of this type of question include: 1. “Please tell us approximately how many total hours a week you use your current cell phone.” 2. “Please tell us approximately how many hours per week (on average) you use your current cell phone while walking, or moving, from place to place.” The fourth type of question allows us to gather information on the relative importance of various needs and various features. Examples of this type of question include: On a scale of -5 to +5, where -5 means “I will definitely not buy this product if it has this feature,” and 0 means “I have no preference about this feature at all,” and a +5 means “I will definitely buy this product if it has this feature,” please answer the following ranking questions.

1. Using the scale described above, how important is it that your next cell phone be able to play actual MP3 files in the place of existing MIDI-style ring-tones? 2. If a new phone were sold whose “battery life” was at least double the length of existing phones, how important would this feature be to you (using the scale shown above)? 3. If a new phone were sold that was lighter in weight than existing phones, how important would this decrease in weight be to you (using the scale shown above)? You can, of course, use any scale that you choose, most people use a purely positive scale (such as 1 to 5), and you can, of course, define the meanings of the various numbers as needed for your situation.
