09/19/2011 Stalinization and European Division I: Introduction—Stalinization at Home and Abroad Once division in world is clear (Sphere of influences) Stalinization emerges-once position clear in  USSR, has pushed through reforms that had gradually purged all non-Stalinist elements (Trotsky,  old Bolsheviks, etc) to bring uniformity of opinion, and unanimity; stalinization of communist  parties in Europe.  II: Dividing Germany West begun to advance Marshall plan and realizes they aren’t getting any part of it.  Currency reform is currently worthless and then put new one in place, in occupation  zones and sectors of Berlin; Soviets are welcome to join but they aren’t so sure because it  seems like this German currency will only fit into the Western currency and West wants  to impose; Operation Bird Dog millions of new German Marks were flown and brought  into Germany, and old currency had no value and this goes long way to stabilizing  western economy for growth March 1948: Soviets walk out of ACC (Allied Control Council); Say West not serious in  negotiating and leave; Stalin decides to take advantage of practical loophole, that all-
