Sarah Otto March 26, 2007 Renna History 100-D The Knights Templar The Knights Templar was a group of military that fought for the Holy Lands. There were an original group of nine knights that came forward to start the Knight’s Templar. They originally called themselves, “The Poor Knights of Jesus Christ.” The knights were similar to monks, but they vowed to fight for Christ. They protected the Holy Land that stretched from the Sinai Peninsula to Syria. The first nine knights came forward in response to the Crusades. The Knights Templar was formed in 1119 and was mainly to save pilgrims coming to the holy land. The knights believed in fighting and keeping control of the holy land. The holy land was the area in which Muslims, Jews, and Christians believed was given to them to live and practice their own religion in. This area of land is still being fought over to this day. During the time of the Templar, the holy land was controlled by them for almost 200 years. The templar knights were the richest pf people in Europe.
