Sarah Otto April 9, 2007 Ann Coburn-Collins Sociology 111 Service Learning Assignment In lower income facilities the service is less appreciated, in some circumstances. The effects of living situations on children of different ages can vary. The effects bring across inequality and cause different children to become deviant or not. At the Neighborhood House in Saginaw, I saw many different children that came from low income families. I noticed differences in how the different age groups and genders reacted and acted during the two hours I spent there. I spent my time with children ranging from five to twelve years of age. Some of the older boys acted tough and were rude and mean. The girls were open to anything and very welcoming. Some of the children were timid about coming around people they weren’t used to being there, while others were welcoming and trying to show us everything we could do. I spent most of my time with a fifth grader named Darian.
