Protocol lab topic 29 Make longitudinal cut (1 cm) to the left of sternum from lower ribs. Lift center section and cut tissue underneath Cut away diaphragm from rib cage on left side only Remove thypmys glands, thyroid, and muscle bands. Do not cut or tear any major blood vessels Find heart encased in pericardial sac, remove sac and identify four heart chambers. Pulmonary trunk and aorta are connected by a short, shunting vessel, the ductus aterious find it Trace pulmonary arteries to lungs Identify veins in figure 29.5 Find cranial vena cava and trace from the heart to where it is formed by the union of the two brachiocephalic veins. Fuind subclavian vein trace to the forelimb locate where it is axillary vein (in the armpit) and brachial vein (upper forelimb) Find aortic arch and trace back to the heart, locate arteries o Coronary arteries o Brachiocephalic artery o Carotid arteries o Right subclavian artery o Left subclavian artery o Axillary artery
