Lab 13 Beginning question: What is the % composition by mass of sodium bicarbonate in an Alka-Seltzer tablet? Safety considerations: Working with sulfuric acid wear goggles an apron and gloves Procedure: 1. Prepare about 500mL of an acid solution saturated with carbon dioxide in a 600mL beaker, add approximately 16.0mL of 3M H2SO4 to the 500mL of distilled water. 2. To saturate the solution with car on dioxide add two full tablets of Alka-Seltzer 3. Prepare an Ostwald buret apparatus 4. Determine the mass of one entire tablet of Alka-Seltzer (be sure to keep any tablet that is not being used folded inside the original foil packet and keep the beaker covered when not working with them) 5. Break the tablet into five pieces, you will need a total of three pieces weighing in the range from 0.1800g- 0.2400g 6. Add one tablet to modified dropper pipet 7. Carefully place pipet into the beaker with the bulb resting in the acid solution at the bottom of the flask. 8.
