A Very Deep Question: 1. John Phillips in 1860, used the idea of sedimentation to estimate the Earth’s age. Based on the rate of sedimentation he observed occurring today, he assumed that approximately one foot of land eroded into the ocean every 1,330 years. He speculated that geologic columns would have a mazimum height of 72,00 feet.Using his approach and numbers, calculate the approximate age of the earth he determened. 72,000 X 1,330 = 95,760,000 years old. 2. Note that how scientific research is conducted (the processes of science) is intertwined with prevailing ideas about natural phenomena. This, in turn, affects new thinking about the natural world. Use information from this short story to explain how scientific knowledge and scientific process are intertwined. One way to describe how scientific knowledge and the scientific process are intertwined would be to explain how they measured the ammount of sediment that eroded from land in X number of years and applied it to the number of feet that equals a different ammount of years. They used the knowledge that
