Introduction Entering UCLA as a World Arts and Cultures-Cultural Studies major, I had no clue what to expect from my WAC 1 course . I didn’t know if it was going to be a normal class like majority of the rest of the lectures UCLA offers, or if it was going to be a more interactive class . Long story short, it turned out to be everything I had hoped for . With all of the guests and performances that I met and attended as a result of this class, it is now much more transparent for me as to how one can use their life passion to promote change and good things in this world . A perfect example of this would be our unbelievable time we were able to spend with South African artist Pieter-Dirk Uys . Unformatted text preview: very dire social norms for anyone who wasn’t white or straight . This inspired me to spend more time with my still photography camera—one of my current passions and stress release . I want to continue taking more photos with the intentions of making a positive change from them . I also really enjoyed WAC 1 because it was a great class to help me get adjusted to life at UCLA . From the journal entry writing, to writing about my identity, the class gave a lot of opportunity to reflect on this transitional period of my life . I look forward to spending the next three years broadening my education of the arts and our world and how I can use my own creativity to initiate positive change in this world ....
