Will Cliff 4/15/10 Professor Peter Sellars WAC 100B – Discussion Section Friday 2-2:50 Response to “Standing Silent Nation” and You Can’t Be Neutral on a Moving Train Preface The main connection that I made between “Standing Silent Nation” and the preface of Howard Zinn’s books are that our democratic government makes many mindless decisions that do not keep in mind the bigger picture . Every year over a four year span DEA agents barged onto the property of the Native Americans plantation and destroyed their hemp crop declaring them as marijuana . But really, the hemp that the tribe is growing is industrial hemp—used for paper, food oil, clothing, etc . The hemp grown on the plantation has THC levels that are too low for anyone to get high off of, so the tribe is obviously not growing the hemp to enter the drug trade . So why then every year does the DEA waste its time and energy disturbing the lives of these Native Americans by obliterating their crop? There are much bigger drug
