OUTLINE – topic #1 22:21 Intro Context Trade benefitted merchants for profit, but not the system as a whole Capitalism is dynamic—not stationary like dutch.   o A cultural movement that is not natural or inevitable England – tools from dutch helped agricultural revolution but not enough to  merely start capitalism o Needed science and spread of ideas o And industrial revolution Thesis:  While expanded world trade and the agricultural revolution were very  significant developments towards the spurring of capitalism, they alone are not  the sole causes of such a cultural system as it took the spreading of  ideas, a  further increase in technology and the industrial revolution amongst all parts of  society to jolt the start of capitalismv BODY Why not Dutch Developed agriculture tools first o Had first bank—looked good o Stimulated trade and novelties for the dutch. But they were satisfied for this and didn’t strive for MORE
