The biomedical approach tries to help people overcome their problems with one of three methods. Those three methods are drug therapy, electroconvulsive therapy, or psychosurgery. Drug therapy uses prescription drugs to calm high levels of emotions when peoples bodies are not strong enough to handle the emotional turmoil. "Electroconvulsive therapy is used for major depression even in patients who have been unresponsive to antidepressants."( Nevid, J. S. & Rathus, S.
