The primary cause of near extinction of large ocean dwelling fish like sword fish and tuna is over fishing. 2. What is fisherman Pete's defense of commercial fishing? A. Pete is skeptical about all he is hearing about how the fish are near extinction because he fishes the ocean everyday and still catches them. His average day is about 20,000 pounds. He says the ocean is really big and it would take a long time for extinction to happen. 3. Is our ocean a limitless resource? Why? A. No, our ocean is not a limitless resource because most of the biggest fish have been pulled from the ocean in the last half century. This only leaves ten percent for fishermen to compete with.

The fish population is definitely reversible but it will take and utterly different attitude about how we use the ocean. 5. Will anyone be hurt be a federal no-finishing zone? who? A. Commercial fishermen will be hurt the most by the Federal no-fishing zone. Pete describes how fishing for sword fish had been his life and its all he knows, not to mention he has his life savings invested in his boat. 6. Everybody agrees that we need a federal fishing policy. What 2 concerns need to be balanced? A. The best way to approach this is to do more research and a policy that strikes a balance between economic demand and environmental concerns....
