Introduction How well do we know broadcast promotions? The material that is produced everyday and distributed right into our daily routines may seem distant, but is compelling in ways that may not be recognized. This is why it is important to examine the promotions that are subconsciously consumed by us regularly, because they are persuasive in ways that can only become familiar to us through observation or research. Thus, I have chosen to conduct a study of promotions to establish the goals of the selected network, American Broadcast Network (or ABC), and provide insight into whether or not such goals are achieved. This network specifically merits promotion analysis because it is among the Big Three broadcast networks and is successful in terms of producing shows generate popularity among audiences and critics. For this study, I selected three programs, through which to monitor the broadcast promotions of ABC Network. The first program is Desperate Housewives , a prime time soap opera that follows the unlikely adventures of three suburban housewives. This program incorporates drama, mystery, suspense, and even comedy in its portrayal of the housewives through their romances, struggles, tragedies, and even crimes. The next program that I selected was Flash Forward . Flash Forward is an action/suspense program that illustrates the world after all of its inhabitants has a dramatic premonition of the future. Flash Forward has a fresh premise, a unique plot, and therefore exemplifies ABC’s ability to innovate new programming. The third and final program that I selected for my study was Grey’s Anatomy . Grey’s Anatomy, another of ABC’s most successful shows, is a drama that follows a group of doctors through their medical journeys and emotional trials.
