ADHD poor impulse control, hyperactivity, lack of concentration, easily distracted… different symptoms for boys and girls boys tend to be more disruptive girls tend to be more inattentive mind tends to wander overdiagnosed; when do these symptoms become a problem? What is adolescence? not really well defined we think of it as coinciding with puberty and sexual maturation a little harder to defy the end of adolescence some cultures don't have this stage, they just go from childhood to adulthood transitions from different developmental stages are usually marked with rites of passage rituals that mark changes in your life can range from purely symbolic to extremely painful bar or bat mitzvah (Jewish) debutante ball (French and southern culture) quinceaneras (Latin American) scaring (African, tribal) vision quest (Native American) walk-about (Australian) hazing (sports teams and social groups) "the talk" Puberty production of live sperm/menstruation in females ability to reproduce physical maturation in adolescence becoming more aware of physical appearance, as well as physical appearance of others coincides with Ericson's "identity vs. role confusion" stage this brings up the issue of accepting yourself
