Prejudice having a negative attitude towards someone based on their membership to a specific group more often than not there is no direct evidence to support the negative attitude the group can be objectively or subjectively defined black, white, man, woman… preppy, nerd, jock, loser… the initial labeling of someone as a group member facilitates the encoding of information that supports the label, compared to information that contradicts it Discrimination negative actions toward someone based on their membership in a certain group acting on prejudice refusing to answer your questions in office hours because you are X grading your exams harder because you are X not allowing you to force add my class because you are X but, you can be prejudiced and not act on it! Causes of prejudice prejudice can be formed numerous ways, and at any age many prejudices you may encounter may be a result of someone's upbringing dissimilarity and social distance in general, we like people who are similar to us and dislike those that are different
