Michael Bustin Mudslides in El Salvador There were multiple mudslides that occurred in El Salvador on Sunday November 8 th , which killed at least 130 people and not including the dozens more that are still missing. The cause of the massive mudslide was excessive rain in the area. The mudslide destroyed many buildings both commercial and residential. There was an estimated 13,680 people in emergency shelters as of Monday the 9 th (CNN). Of the areas affected, they include San Salvador, La Paz, Cuscatlan, Usulatan and San Vincente. So far the El Salvadorian government announced that there was an estimated amount of 108 mudslides that occurred on Sunday. These mudslides destroyed 209 buildings and damaged 1835 more (CNN). Also in addition to the destruction of buildings, around 18 bridges were destroyed due to the mudslides (CNN). To cope with this natural disaster, the UN and many other private groups and individuals have promised donations to the small Latin American country. The only issue is that the
