Throughout the second half of this course we have discussed how  encounters  between European and Euro- American cultures, on the one hand, and Native American and African traditions on the other have served as  the catalyst for   adaptations  within each tradition. In this essay, describe how one of the latter two traditions –  Native American or African – demonstrates the  hybridity   which is produced by the process of adaptation.  Discuss  three   specific examples  of the hybridity characteristic of your chosen tradition.  These examples  could be key events or distinct time periods, adaptive or reactionary strategies of groups or representative  individuals.  Through discussing these three examples, you should demonstrate how the hybridization of your  chosen tradition fits within the larger framework of American religious encounters.
