Sequence 1: Emphasis on “Thick” Description and Figurative Language Purpose: For this assignment, you will learn to how to develop good “thick” descriptions. This is important in order to convey what you want the reader to envision while reading your retelling of Wicked . For the Final paper, you will do the following: Pick a story that can use a lot of description Enhance the descriptions by using figurative language, of the events and objects in your retelling. Articulate what you envision the scene looks like by using “thick” descriptions. Writing more robust and appealing dialogue for each character. Know when to cut down descriptions if there is too much. Being as descriptive as possible: Adding thick description and figurative language is an important way to beef up an essay as well as make the story more enjoyable to the reader. Some ways that using thick description can improve a reading: o Describe how a person dresses: Example : “As she is thinking, she exits the dormitory, into the dark night.
