Chapter 7 1. Why might it not be ideal for a small, isolated Caribbean island to rely on tourism for bringing about revenue and national development? It would not be ideal for a small, isolated Caribbean island to rely on tourism for bringing about revenue and national development because they would not be very well known. If they are small and isolated, then they will be hard to get to, and therefore people wouldn't know about them. If people didn't know about them, then the tourism would be low and not that many people will go there. 2. What are some of the things that you can do (and not do) as an environmentally responsible and culturally sensitive tourist? One of of the things that a culturally sensitive tourist could do is respect local customs and learn more about them. They are encouraged to visit more religious and cultural sites in order to learn more about a certain culture. Environmentally responsible tourism, or ecotourism, is tourism that respects and doesn't harm our environment. For example, a safari is a nature tourism adventure that can harm animals, but ecotourism wouldn't do this, because of the harm to animals. Ecotrourism builds an
