Adam Michalowsky Character List Henry Longfellow- Member and founder of the Dante Club. Utterly devoted to finishing the translation, to the point that it consumed his whole life. Loves his children dearly, more so after his wife died. Oliver Holmes- Member of Dante Club. Doctor, specializes in surgery. Writes lots of poems and is close to his family, although argues with son. Examined the bodies of the murders, made connection to Dante. James Lowell- Member of the Dante Club. Taught at Harvard University. Fluent in Italian, amongst other languages. George Greene- Member of the Dante Club. Taught courses on Dante. Oldest member in the Club. James Fields- Member of the Dante Club. Well-known publisher of poets, senior partner and most successful publisher in America. Was going to publish the Dante Club’s translation of Dante’s Comedy. Nicholas Rey- First African American man in the Boston police force. Helped make the connection between the murders and Dante’s Inferno and helped solve the mystery. Was subject to harsh displays of racism. Chief Kurtz- Chief of police in Boston. Had to deal with all of the Dante murders. Artemus Prescott Healey- Chief Justice. First person murdered by Dan Teal. Was knocked out by a hit to the head and then left in his garden to be eaten alive by maggots. Reverend Elisha Talbot- Minister of the Second Unitarian Church of Cambridge. Second person
