John Malloy Entry #7 The Cookies Bite Back The last thing mom told me before school that morning was that having any of the soft and gooey chocolate chip cookies before dinner was absolutely off limits. As she so lovingly put it, I’d never see the light of day if I so much as thought about reaching into that beaming teddy bear jar. The mere thought of those crumbly chocolate discs captivated me all day at school, even through pig dissections in biology. I simply craved them. The end of school was finally afoot; the time to feast was near. I remembered perfectly clear what my mother had warned me of earlier, but in my mind’s eye it was totally worth it. I knew that mother wouldn’t be home for at least an hour, giving me plenty of time to do my dirty deed. I found myself leaping from the school bus into a full sprint home, quickly entering and locking up, disregarding the fact that the door was already unlocked. It was finally just me, a gallon of milk, and a whole lot of cookies waiting willingly to be eaten. The first bite is always the best.
