John Malloy EAS101 – Book Report Preview Professor Ettouney November 9, 2009 Deadline , by Chris Cutchner, is a fascinating book that tells the story of a smart-ass high school boy, Ben Wolf, who has only one year to live. Within this year, he aspires to live a full life and accomplish numerous goals he sets for himself such as making the football team, becoming popular, and gaining the attention of the school’s most wanted girl. The thing that makes this story different than others of the same nature is that no one knows about Ben’s situation. Not even his own parents. This makes Ben’s situation that much more interesting. He is torn between telling everyone and keeping it a secret for himself. On one hand, if he told his parents, he would be treated differently and given unwanted attention for the last year of his life. The other option that he decides upon is keeping the secret to himself so as to avoid special treatment. The choice Ben makes only makes it that much harder for
