Force: The capacity to do work or cause physical change. F=ma b. Stress: An applied force or system of forces that tends to strain or deform a body. c. Strain: A deformation produced by stress. d. Elasticity: The ability of a solid to return to its original shape or form after being subject to strain. e. Hooke’s Law: States that the extension of a spring is in direct proportion with the load added to it as long as this load does not exceed the elastic limit. f. Truss: Support structurally. g. Tension: A force that tends to produce an elongation of a body or structure. h. Compression: A force that tends to shorten or squeeze something, decreasing its volume. i. Buckling: To bend, warp, or crumple, as under pressure or heat. 2.) Write out Newton’s three laws of motion. How would they apply to a structure that is in static equilibrium?
