The new student sat in the back of the room . 2. The results of the Iowa caucuses surprised many people . 3. Dana was hoping to hoping to discover the answer extremely quickly . 4. Chris reads newspapers every morning. 5. The stars in the frozen winter sky twinkled . 6. Mother took Dana and Lynn to the movies. 7. The voters were annoyed with the excessively negative campaign ads. 8. Sandy doesn’t think that Terry’s comment warrants an answer. 9. In return, Terry thinks that Sandy is inexplicably unresponsive . 10. At no time should you leave your luggage unattended. 11. Everybody seems to be reasonably happy . Part 2 Consider the underlined expressions in the following sentences and determine whether or not they are constituents. Use the constituency tests discussed in class, but remember that a constituent may not pass all of the tests (and in some cases perhaps only one). (15 points)
