Cameron Hartman Drinking age in class write Mrs. Deulroo ENG 150-60 September, 4 th , 2008 Drinking- not very uncommon these days, you see it at college, in High School, at home, and it seems like it just keeps getting worse and more widespread. As an effort to cut back on binge drinking, a group of 120 college presidents are pushing to lower the drinking age to 18. Yet, in my opinion, that won’t help the situation, it will only make drinking much more common, and more widespread, and as history shows, will just increase the number of alcohol related deaths. I personally don’t buy the reasoning of the college presidents, saying it is an effort to cut back on binge drinking. As the Chicago Tribune says “Kids under age 21 don't drink because it's illegal. And they won't stop drinking if it is legal.” This statement couldn’t be more true, college kids will do what they want, and lowering the drinking age won’t help a thing in that sense.
