James Soyemi Historical Significance of Race in America (Section 5): 3:00pm Prof. Stanford Final Reaction Paper The struggle of equality in America is an issue many races face. Although inequality still goes on today, the past was worse. Two films we viewed in class that illustrate modern and past inequality are Crash and Cointelpro 101. Both of these films show the struggle of gaining equal rights, and racial tensions in society. While Cointelpro 101 focused more on African Americans, Crash focused on many different races from Caucasian, African American, Persian, and Asian. Although people come in different color and race, our stories may have similarities. The movie Crash demonstrates racial and social tensions in Los Angeles, California. The depicted lifestyle of African American males was high school drop outs that stole cars and robbed people to make a living. I found it interesting when the white District Attorney told the black LAPD detective that “8 times more black men were likely to be incarcerated that white men.” Even
