Some tips for writing FNL paper 1. Book titles and movie titles are underlined or italicized because they are full-length works. They do NOT carry quotation marks. 2. Be sure that you have a thesis paragraph that introduces your paper. A good thesis paragraph is targeted directly to the question at hand. Do not try to be too grandiose; promising more than you can possibly deliver in the paper. 3. Be sure each paragraph makes a point that builds your thesis. Incorporate evidence and examples where possible. 4. Be sure you have a concluding paragraph that “echoes” your thesis. Do NOT begin a new paper in the concluding paragraph! 5. Be sure to spell-check your paper AND THEN proofread your paper. Proofreading out loud can be a help. 6. Try to use clear, direct sentences. Active voice is always preferable to passive voice. Active voice: Buzz Bissinger describes the town of Odessa, TX as…… Passive voice: The town of Odessa, TX was described as…. . Key to finding active voice:
