Street Families Elijah Anderson defines “Street Families” as families, who are more fully invested in the code of the streets. The code of the streets is a set of rules that govern public behavior. Five Stars identified many cultural worlds and prospectives……. . RoseMary- Understanding how people are so different because of the way they are raised and how street people are so different no respect, no rules and no boundaries. Louivanni Sub-culture that deliberately opposes certain aspects of the larger culture. Reginald Value contradiction decent family values vs. . street family values.

Decent Families Melissa- culture Shock the crime rate, how it differs from how children are raised. Street families have little values or none. Di Resse- language is expressed through music, videos, television and movies. It has effected how suburban society approaches the inner-city. Ahnna- conflict people have two different ways of thinking how to live in the ghetto. Lauren- change over time and what happens in the streets.

Social Control Society uses the social control to encourage the acceptance of basic norms. The American society has rules/laws……in the black poor inner-city they too have rules you must follow………. Code of the Streets This sub-culture answers to authorities police and the deviants. Infecting those who enter into this community their values, norms, language, dress, gestures, music and even influencing the sanctions they place in their homes.

Inner-City E scapes In the inner-city the approach of the American Dream differs vastly in the decent and the street families. Street families The dominant ideology of capitalistic America has influenced street families values. The frustration has evolve into a perverted sub-culture of deviance crimes such as: robbery, drugs and abuse is the catalyst that has lead many to poor housing, incarceration and death.

Inner-City E scapes Decent Families Believe that their escape is possible through family, hard work, education, self-discipline and God. Parents teach their children the things they assume are correct. They live in the inner-city raising their children to know the code of the streets, but not become the street.

Mass Media Have made billions of dollars by making films and tv programs of the poor black inner-city showing the hardships and trials Decent Families One of the first and longest running black tv sitcoms that introduce to America the poor black inner –city decent families, was Good Times Street Families Twenty years later the music, values, language and the norms of society had changed. Mass media realize that there was much money to be made in the hood and produced New Jack City which depicted the deviant poor black inner-city.
