Universal education is a tool for knowledge . Knowledge can lead to success . Success leads to power , which in turn gives strength in terms of character and citizenship. For one to overcome those hurdles, they need equal opportunity to obtain the fundamental knowledge to reach their destiny. The promise of the education is to allow natural abilities to win over the artificial inequalities of class, race, and sex.

Unjust treatment in American Educational system It is evident that one’s natural abilities are overlooked, based on their social class and this maintains the social hierarchy in our society. Politically speaking education is a way of social controlling and maintaining the hierarchy within the education system. This shows the functionalist perspective , the need for stability, control and balance .
